BUET CPI Safety Research Group

Chemical Process Industries (CPI) Safety research Group of the Department of Chemical Engineering, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) is a pioneer in teaching and research in the field of chemical safety management and process safety in Bangladesh. The CPI safety group is renowned for its activities in the fields of process safety and chemical safety and security. The faculty members of this group have served as experts in policy making committees dealing with technological and safety issues of chemical industries formed by the Government of Bangladesh. The expertise also served as resource persons to the National Authority of Chemical Weapon Convention (BNACWC), Armed Force Division, Bangladesh and have presented in a number of national/international forums including OPCW on chemical safety issues. CPI Safety has also extended its research collaboration  with PSE for SPEED Company for safer and sustainable product design.   

The chemical engineering department, BUET has established an academic collaboration with Mary Kay O’Connor Process Safety Centre (MKOPSC), Texas A& M University System, US, world leader in chemical process safety. The late Dr. M. Sam Mannan, one of the giants in the world of process safety, was the first holder of the prestigious M.A. Naser Chair of the Department. The department regularly organizes short courses and workshops on chemical and process safety and have trained more than 500 professionals to date.
